Al Pounders says that Paul Cezanne and Henri Matisse were great influences on his artistic development as they were for many artists before him. Passion for structure and composition is organically part of Al Pounders’ nature as an artist. It suits him to paint and overpaint, to build-up and adjust, to consider, reconsider and adjust again.
The process is akin to tightening the strings of a violin, tuning it in response to local conditions. Like a violin, whose final aspiration is gorgeous, harmonious sound, Pounders’ paintings are adjusted toward a tight balance and equilibrium.
